Consumer Alternative Dispute Resolution in Emerging Economies, Taylor & Francis Ltd, ss.25-39, 2025
Brexit and the United Kingdom’s (UK) departure from the European Union (EU) have impacted English consumers’ access to the EU’s online dispute resolution (ODR) platform. The parliament and judiciary now face the challenge of establishing a framework for resolving consumer disputes through ODR in the post-Brexit landscape. Studies are underway to explore using ODR for consumer conflicts in England. Traditional Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods like mediation and arbitration are already adapting to online formats. Discussions at the national level are considering new purely online processes, especially for lower-value disputes. The goal is to efficiently and fairly resolve smaller-scale disputes by developing ODR software systems, which are expected to increasingly function as a triage facility, settling more straightforward claims online to preserve court resources for more complex disputes.
