Özet

This chapter explores school counselors’ training and professional identity development within the three core domains of academic, career, and social/personal development. Drawing on current standards and models, it examines how counselor education programs prepare candidates to design and implement comprehensive school counseling programs aligned with students’ diverse needs. This chapter examines how counselor training programs, guided by national standards, prepare future professionals to meet students’ holistic needs and play a meaningful role within school communities. It also explores how each domain contributes to the development of a counselor’s professional identity and enhances their effectiveness in supporting student success. Emphasis is placed on the evolving nature of the school counselor’s role and the influence of targeted preparation on both school counselors’ professional practice and identity formation. Through a review of relevant literature and program frameworks, the study highlights best practices regarding school counselors’ roles and areas for growth in counselor preparation, emphasizing the importance of holistic development in professional training.
