Na doped Li-rich NMC showed better rate capabilities at both RT and 50 °C, 5% Na doping in Li-rich NMC inhibit the layered to spinel structural transformation and provide higher Mn capacity utilization. Na+ in the solid exchanges with Li+ in solution and the ensuing transition metal (Ni3+) migration to Na+ sites appears to block the layer to spinel phase transformation LLNC demonstrated that Mn in the LiMO2 segment of the composite structure is responsible for the layer-spine phase transition as LLNC does not show it. Low capacity fade and high-rate cycling was achieved in a nanophase 0.5Li2MnO3.0.5LiMn0.5Ni0.35Co0.15O2 (NS-MNC) synthesized by a new method.
